The North Atlantic Right Whale DNA Bank at Trent University is a formalized database of whale samples from across North America. This database is intended to provide the general public, managers, policy makers, and researchers with access to the most current genetic information available on the North Atlantic Right Whale. Researchers are also encouraged to contact us regarding collaborative projects that would allow access to DNA and/or tissue from our archives for standardizing protocols across research laboratories.
The DNA bank is located in the DNA building at Trent University. The infrastructure includes a state of the art environmentally controlled Aurora Greenhouse, a Bio-containment Level III facility, and ancient DNA lab, a wildlife Disease laboratory, small and large animal autopsy facilities, and Genomics and Automation Laboratories.
The Automation facility contains 2 ABI Automated sequencers, 4 automated liquid handlers, an automated storage freezer, and an ABI real-time pcr. This facility offers DNA isolation and characterization services and automated DNA Profiling and sequencing.
